DERMAL FILLERS

Medical Aesthetic Treatment

Dermal Filler Applications

Individualized injectable treatments planned according to facial anatomy, proportions, tissue characteristics and medical suitability.

Dermal filler applications are injectable medical aesthetic procedures used to address selected facial areas according to individual anatomy, tissue characteristics and treatment objectives.

Rather than treating every patient according to a standardized injection pattern, filler treatment is planned following an individualized facial and medical assessment.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable products used in selected medical aesthetic procedures to modify volume, contour or proportions in specific anatomical areas.

Different filler materials and formulations have different physical and biological characteristics. Product selection therefore depends on the anatomical area, tissue characteristics, intended purpose and individual medical assessment.

Filler treatment should not be planned simply according to a predetermined number of millilitres. The relationship between different facial areas, facial proportions, tissue characteristics and previous procedures should be considered together.

Personalized treatment planning: Product selection, treatment area, amount and injection technique are determined individually by the physician following medical and anatomical assessment.

Which Areas Can Be Evaluated?

Depending on individual anatomy, medical suitability and the characteristics of the selected product, dermal filler applications may be considered for different facial areas.

Lips

Assessment of lip volume, contour, definition, proportions and symmetry.

Chin

Evaluation of chin projection, contour and its relationship with the lower face.

Jawline

Assessment of lower facial contour and the relationship between the jawline and chin.

Cheeks & Mid-Face

Evaluation of selected areas of facial volume and mid-face contour.

Under-Eye Area

Selected concerns may be evaluated where filler treatment is considered anatomically and medically appropriate.

Nasal Contour

Selected nasal contour concerns may be assessed for non-surgical filler treatment in appropriate patients.

Other selected facial areas may also be evaluated where medically appropriate. Not every filler product is suitable for every anatomical area.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in human tissues and is also used in various injectable filler products.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are available in different formulations with different physical properties. These characteristics influence how a product may be selected for a particular anatomical area or treatment objective.

The selection of a filler should therefore be based on clinical assessment and product characteristics rather than using the same filler for every facial area.

Lip Filler

Lip filler is an injectable aesthetic procedure that may be used to modify selected aspects of lip volume, definition, contour or proportion.

Treatment planning takes into consideration the natural anatomy of the lips, the relationship between the upper and lower lip, facial proportions, existing asymmetry, tissue characteristics and previous procedures.

The objective is not necessarily to simply increase lip volume. Depending on the individual assessment, treatment may focus on contour, proportion, definition or selected areas of volume.

Jawline Contouring

Jawline contouring involves evaluation of the lower face and, where medically appropriate, the use of injectable filler in selected anatomical areas.

The jawline should not be evaluated in isolation. The relationship between the chin, jaw angle, lower face and overall facial proportions is considered during treatment planning.

The amount and location of filler required can therefore differ substantially between patients.

Chin Filler

Chin filler may be considered to modify selected aspects of chin projection, contour or proportion.

Because the chin influences both frontal facial proportions and the facial profile, assessment includes its relationship with the jawline, lips and surrounding facial structures.

Treatment is planned according to individual anatomy rather than a standardized amount of filler.

Cheek & Mid-Face Filler

Facial volume and contour differ between individuals and may also change over time.

Following assessment, selected areas of the cheeks or mid-face may be considered for filler treatment where medically appropriate.

Treatment planning considers the relationship between the cheeks, under-eye area, lower face and overall facial proportions.

Non-Surgical Nose Filler

Selected nasal contour concerns may, in appropriate patients, be evaluated for treatment using injectable filler.

Nose filler and surgical rhinoplasty are fundamentally different procedures. Filler does not produce the same anatomical changes as surgery and is not an appropriate option for every nasal concern.

The nose is an anatomically complex region with important vascular structures. Appropriate patient selection, detailed anatomical knowledge and careful treatment planning are therefore particularly important.

Under-Eye Filler

Concerns involving the under-eye area can have different anatomical causes and should not automatically be treated with filler.

Before considering treatment, the physician evaluates the under-eye contour, skin and soft-tissue characteristics, surrounding anatomy, mid-face relationship and previous procedures.

In selected patients, filler may be considered when the physician determines that the anatomical characteristics and treatment indication are appropriate.

Facial Assessment Before Treatment

A medical and anatomical assessment is performed before filler treatment.

The assessment may include:

  • Relevant medical history
  • Previous filler applications
  • Previous aesthetic or surgical procedures
  • Current medications where relevant
  • Known allergies or previous reactions
  • Facial anatomy
  • Facial proportions
  • Facial symmetry
  • Skin and soft-tissue characteristics
  • Individual treatment expectations
  • Potential contraindications

Your Treatment Journey

01 Consultation

Your concerns, previous procedures and relevant medical information are discussed.

02 Assessment

Facial anatomy, proportions, tissue characteristics and treatment suitability are evaluated.

03 Treatment Planning

Treatment areas, product selection and amount are determined individually.

04 Follow-Up

Where appropriate, treatment response can be assessed during follow-up.

What Happens During Filler Treatment?

After assessment and preparation of the treatment area, the selected filler is administered according to the individualized treatment plan.

Depending on the anatomical area, product and injection technique, a needle or cannula may be used.

The amount of filler required varies between patients. Treatment should be based on clinical assessment rather than an obligation to use a predetermined volume of product.

What Can Be Expected After Treatment?

Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising or sensitivity can occur following injectable filler procedures.

Certain areas, particularly the lips, may develop more noticeable temporary swelling.

For this reason, the appearance immediately after treatment may not represent the appearance after the initial post-procedure changes have settled.

Patients should follow the individualized aftercare instructions provided by their physician.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

The duration of a filler treatment varies and cannot be predicted identically for every patient.

Factors that may influence duration include:

  • Filler material and formulation
  • Treatment area
  • Amount administered
  • Tissue characteristics
  • Individual biological response
  • Facial movement
  • Previous treatments

Repeat treatment should therefore be considered according to individual assessment rather than a guaranteed fixed duration.

Previous Filler Treatments

Previous filler applications can be important when planning a new treatment, even when the previous procedure was performed some time ago.

Patients should inform the physician about previous treatments and, where known, provide information concerning:

  • The area previously treated
  • Approximate treatment date
  • Product used
  • Amount administered
  • Any previous adverse reactions or complications

This information can influence subsequent medical assessment and treatment planning.

Possible Side Effects & Risks

Dermal filler injection is a medical procedure and is not free from potential adverse effects or complications.

Possible effects may include:

  • Temporary swelling
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Temporary asymmetry
  • Injection-site reactions
  • Infection
  • Product- or area-specific complications

Rare but potentially serious vascular complications can also occur with injectable filler procedures.

Appropriate knowledge of facial anatomy, patient selection, product selection, injection technique and recognition and management of complications are therefore important components of treatment.

The specific risks associated with the proposed treatment should be discussed with the physician before the procedure as part of the informed-consent process.

Who May Not Be Suitable for Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filler treatment is not appropriate for every individual.

Treatment suitability may be influenced by pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or inflammation in the proposed treatment area, certain medical conditions, allergies, medications, previous reactions and other relevant clinical factors.

Patients should provide accurate information about their medical history and previous aesthetic procedures before treatment.

Individual Facial Proportions

Facial aesthetic treatment should take into account the relationship between different anatomical areas rather than evaluating each area independently.

The lips, chin, jawline, cheeks, nose and other facial structures contribute collectively to overall facial proportions.

For this reason, the same filler volume, injection pattern or treatment strategy is not appropriate for every patient.

Our approach: Treatment planning begins with individual facial assessment. Additional treatment or additional product is not automatically considered necessary simply because it is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much filler do I need?

There is no universal amount appropriate for every patient. The amount is determined according to anatomy, treatment area, product characteristics and individual treatment objectives.

Are dermal fillers permanent?

Different filler materials have different characteristics and durations. Many commonly used fillers provide temporary effects. The specific product proposed should be discussed before treatment.

Can several areas be treated at the same appointment?

Potential treatment areas can be evaluated together. Whether several areas are treated during the same appointment depends on the individual treatment plan and medical suitability.

Can filler be removed?

This depends on the material used. Some filler materials have treatment options available if clinically required, while other materials cannot be managed in the same way. Knowing the specific product used is therefore important.

When will I see the final appearance?

An immediate change may be visible after treatment, but temporary swelling and other post-injection changes can affect the initial appearance. The appropriate assessment period depends on the treatment area and procedure.

Should I tell my physician about previous fillers?

Yes. Previous filler treatments can affect current assessment and treatment planning. Where possible, provide information about the product, area, amount and approximate treatment date.
